I love the “Monster at the End of This Book” reference! I remember as a child, our Grade 2 teacher refused to read it properly, and by the end of the book, she said, “…I think we’re done with this book for today.” She used to deliberately skip pages, and she never did the voices or sound effects. Like this one time? She was supposed to read “Ha ha ha ha!” but instead she simply went with, “He laughs…” Sheesh. Some meta would’ve done her good.
there’s a sequel now with elmo in it called “another monster at the end of this book.” ashley has the iphone app of it, and it’s pretty funny, you have to knock down grover’s barriers to get to the next page.
